  Notices from Find a Tender and Contracts Finder, read daily and checked against each other so the same job isn't shown twice. Contracts Finder is where much of the smaller work is.

Decide quickly what's worth bidding for

• Plain-English summaries

  What the buyer actually wants, in a couple of sentences, above the legal wording.

• Small-firm fit, with reasons

  A small-firm friendly badge, or a plain list of what might rule a small firm out: contract size, a stated turnover requirement over £5 million, or a need for national coverage. Worked out from the notice's figures, not guessed.

• Value per lot

  A large contract split into lots shows what each lot is worth, because that's the job you'd be bidding for.

• Requirements, only when stated

  Accreditations and conditions are listed only where the notice itself states them. Nothing is inferred.

• Possible incumbent

  Where the buyer's previous awards suggest who holds the work now, the notice says so, clearly labelled as inferred.

• Closing time, not just the date

  Most deadlines fall at 12 noon. Every notice shows the time as well as the date.

  Contracts in your trades are flagged once, about a year before they end, while the buyer is still deciding what to ask for. Terminated and amended contracts are left out.

What Bidwire doesn't do

• We don't fetch the tender documents.
  Specifications and questions live on each buyer's portal, behind a registration. Every notice links to its source so you can get them.
• We don't tell you which accreditations you'll need unless the notice says.
  We tested it: notices rarely state requirements in the published data, and guessing would tell you that you qualify when you might not.
• We don't write bids.
  We help you decide which ones to write. The resources section covers how to write them well.
• We don't cover every portal.
  Scotland's below-threshold notices are on Public Contracts Scotland, and Wales and Northern Ireland have their own portals for work published only there.
